Indy making contingency plan for Super Bowl
ANDERSON, Ind. — Indianapolis is making contingency plans for the 2012 Super Bowl in case of a labor stoppage next season.
The game is scheduled for Feb. 5, 2012, but host committee president and CEO Allison Melangton told The Associated Press league officials have asked for local venues and hotel rooms to be blocked out for the next weekend, Feb. 12.
Melangton says a backup date was originally discussed during the bidding process.
Colts owner Jim Irsay told reporters at training camp Monday he expects the Super Bowl to be played as scheduled in Indianapolis, though city officials do have “some flexibility.”
NFL Players Association officials fear the owners will lock out players before the start of next season.
