Jacksonville St. rallies to beat Chattanooga 21-17
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Marques Ivory’s 72-yard touchdown pass to James Shaw with 1:16 to go capped Jacksonville State’s late rally in a 21-17 victory over Chattanooga on Saturday night.
The game, which was delayed nearly an hour and a half because of lightning, was the second thrilling finish for the Gamecocks (2-0), who knocked off Mississippi 49-48 in double overtime in their season opener.
The Mocs (0-2) jumped out to a 17-0 lead, sparked by Jaron Norfleet’s 26-yard fumble return.
B.J. Coleman’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Joel Bradford with 12:19 left in the third quarter was the Mocs’ final scoring play.
The Gamecocks answered with Coty Blanchard’s 3-yard touchdown, followed by his 9-yard TD pass to Jeffrey Cameron to pull to 17-14 with 7:50 left.
Chattanooga drove to the Jacksonville State 11 but turned the ball over on downs. The Gamecocks then drove 89 yards for the winning score.
