NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Novak Djokovic proved yet again that he deserves to be counted amongst the present greats as he saved two match points to defeat, arguably, the world’s greatest tennis player, in the semifinal of the US Open. For Roger Federer, the loss was a difficult one as he has qualified for 6 consecutive finals of the US Open and won 45 of the 46 matches in the tournament. The US Open final will now take place between the destructive Spaniard and World No.1 Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. In spite of the audience being treated to a neck and neck contest, many were hoping for another Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer battle.

In the womens’ singles category, Kim Clijsters became the US Open 2010 champion on Saturday. In what was one of the most one-sided games in the history of the tournament, Kim Clijsters crushed the young Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva in two sets with a score of 6-1,6-2. Overall an unimpressive game, Kim Clijsters revealed in the press conference that she was looking for revenge against Vera Zvonareva after her loss to the Russian in the Wimbledon. She said that the youngster might have preoccupied with the thoughts of the previous encounter which could have prevented her from performing her best in the US Open final clash.

Rafael Nadal, who literally bulldozed his way into the finals of the US Open has not qualified for the finals before in his career. Not only does it promises to be a perfect Sunday night entertainer, but also Rafael Nadal’s best chance to retain the World No.1 title in the long run.
