KANSAS CITY (GaeaTimes.com) — With a brilliant win against the San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs have given the New Arrowhead Stadium a grand opening.
While Arrowhead’s distinctive design remains intact, the stadium’s reputation as one of the NFL’s most hostile and intimidating venues has suffered along with the Chiefs’ recent results. In 2005 Sports Illustrated had declared Arrowhead as “the toughest place to play”. But Chief’s poor performance at home in the last two years has tarnished this reputation to some extent. A visit to Kansas City no longer struck fear in the heart of the opponents.
But now with a large scale renovation of the stadium, Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt has promised the fans that-
We wanted to give our fans all the amenities of a brand-new, first class venue while preserving the iconic elements of the stadium.
Despite of a driving rain storm, all the 71,000 seats were filled up. A great surge of energy was seen amongst the crowd during the match. With a big win against the “favorite” Chargers, things are going smoothly for the team as well as their home stadium.
The planning and the construction took nearly six years. Although fans are hopeful that it will not take that long to turn the team into playoff contenders.
