Pierce leads Delaware past Duquesne 30-6
NEWARK, Del. — Freshman Andrew Pierce ran for 200 yards and scored twice to lead Delaware to a 30-6 win over Duquesne on Saturday.
Pierce, who finished with 16 carries, became the first freshman in Delaware history to rush for 200 yards in a game. He scored on a 1-yard run then a 33-yard rushing score, giving the Blue Hens (3-0) a 24-3 lead in the second quarter.
Trevor Sasek had 75 yards passing and a 23-yard touchdown pass to Phillip Thaxton in the fourth for Delaware. The Blue Hens totaled 448 yards on offense — 373 of which were rushing yards.
Sean Patterson threw for 186 yards and three interceptions for the Dukes (2-1). Connor Dixon set career highs with eight catches and 117 yards.
Duquesne drove inside the Delaware 15 three times, but came away with three points against a Delaware defense that has not allowed a touchdown this season.
