Nassib throws 5 TDs, Syracuse beats Maine 38-14
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Ryan Nassib threw a school-record five touchdown passes, two to Alec Lemon, and Syracuse beat Maine 38-14 on Saturday night.
The Orange (2-1) overcame 14 penalties and several dropped passes, including three by Lemon, to beat the Bears (1-2) for the second straight year. Maine plays in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Trailing 14-10 in the final minute of the first half, Nassib hit tight end Jose Cruz with a 4-yard TD pass on fourth down to give Syracuse its first lead.
Nassib hit Lemon with a 20-yard score with 5:16 left in the third quarter, then connected with tight end Nick Provo for another 20-yard score in the final minute of the period to lead 31-14.
Lemon also had a 3-yard scoring catch in the second quarter and Nassib hit Van Chew for a 21-yard TD.
Maine quarterback Smith scored on a 10-yard run and threw a 6-yard touchdown to Justin Perrillo.
