BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Torez Jones had four interceptions and Western Carolina scored touchdowns on two other Gardner-Webb turnovers Saturday night in a 28-14 win.
Mitchell Bell returned a fumble 45 yards for the Catamounts’ first touchdown, and Adam Hearns’ 22-yard interception return gave Western Carolina (1-2) a 21-7 lead with 12:36 to play.
Jones, who also had 12 tackles, intercepted a pass in the end zone with four seconds left in the first half, and another at the Western Carolina 12 with 4:32 to play. He also picked off second-quarter passes at the Gardner-Webb 47 with 13:34 left and at the Western Carolina 16 with 2:40 remaining.
Marquel Pittman caught seven passes for 114 yards and Michael Johnson rushed for 86 yards for the Catamounts.
John Rock completed 21 of 38 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for another score for Gardner-Webb (2-1).
