Colorado spoils Halak’s preseason debut with Blues

ST. LOUIS — David Jones and Luke Walker scored 31 seconds apart midway through the second period to lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night in the preseason opener for both teams.

The loss spoiled the Blues debut of goalie Jaroslav Halak, who played the entire game and made 15 saves. Halak was acquired from Montreal in the offseason after he led the Canadiens to playoff upsets of the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins last spring. He signed a four-year contract with St. Louis in July.

Kevin Shattenkirk had the other goal for Colorado, and T.J. Galiardi had two assists for the Avalanche. Peter Budaj played the first 22 minutes, 14 seconds for Colorado and made nine saves on 10 shots to earn the win.

Patrik Berglund scored St. Louis’ only goal.
