NCAA suspends UNC’s Burney 6 games, Williams 4

RALEIGH, N.C. — The NCAA has suspended North Carolina defensive back Kendric Burney six games and safety Deunta Williams four games while also requiring both players to repay benefits.

The NCAA says Burney received $1,333 in benefits and must repay $575.19 to a charity. Williams received $1,426 in benefits and must repay $450.67 to charity. Both players have missed the first two games for the winless Tar Heels.

In a statement, athletic director Dick Baddour says the school will appeal the length of the suspensions, calling them “unduly harsh.”

The school says the benefits included trips to California, Atlanta and Las Vegas for Burney, and two trips to California for Williams.
