Tide-Razorbacks showdown a showcase for 2 top QBs
Ryan Mallett has put up the gaudiest passing totals in the country while leading Arkansas into the top 10. Greg McElroy’s most impressive numbers are in the win column.
On Saturday, the two quarterbacks will share the spotlight when 10th-ranked Arkansas hosts No. 1 Alabama (3-0).
Mallett guides the Razorbacks (3-0) by directing lasers at his receivers in an offense that centers on him. He’s averaging 360.3 passing yards per game, a total that McElroy has never approached while going 17-0 as the starting quarterback for the defending national champions.
McElroy has been able to use his arm sparingly with the luxury of two dynamic running backs, including 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. But this year, he’s the nation’s leader in passing efficiency and has three straight 200-yard passing games for the first time in his career.
