Troy rallies to beat Arkansas State 35-28

TROY, Ala. — Corey Robinson threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Southward with 22 seconds left as Troy rallied for a 35-28 win over Arkansas State in a game delayed almost two hours by lightning Saturday.

Arkansas State (1-3, 1-2 Sun Belt) went up 28-27 after a 30-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Aplin to Allen Muse. Robinson threw for 67 yards on the final drive and finished with 316 yards passing. Jamie Hampton’s pass to Jerrel Jernigan was good for the 2-point conversion.

Arkansas State trailed 21-7 in the second quarter, but came out rejuvenated after an hour and 45-minute lightning delay late in the second quarter. The Red Wolves cut the halftime lead to 21-14 on a 14-yard touchdown run by Jermaine Robertson.

Troy (2-2, 1-0) got two second-half field goals by Michael Taylor, but Arkansas State cut the lead to 27-21 on a 4-yard touchdown pass to Kedric Murry from Aplin with 9:26 left.

Jernigan had 209 yards receiving for Troy. Arkansas State’s Aplin threw for 237 yards and ran for 95.
