Cornell goes on road to beat Bucknell 21-12
LEWISBURG, Pa. — Cornell jumped out early and were able to hang on to defeat Bucknell 21-12 on Saturday night.
The Big Red (1-2) jumped out to a 14-0 lead after a 2-yard touchdown run from Nick Booker-Tandy and 14-yard scoring run from Luke Tasker, but a 21-yard field goal from Bucknell kicker Drew Orth with 14 seconds remaining in the first half cut into the deficit, 14-3.
Orth added a 39-yard field goal early in the second half to pull the Bison (0-4) within 14-6.
Quarterback Jeff Matthews then scored on a 1-yard run that capped an 11-play, 70-yard drive for Cornell to push the lead to 21-6.
A 14-yard touchdown run from Brandon Wesley just before the end of the third quarter kept Bucknell in the game, but a failed two-point conversion made the score 21-12.
Cornell notched the victory despite an interception from Matthews and losing three fumbles.
