Old Dominion beats Gardner-Webb 14-7
NORFOLK, Va. — Quarterback Thomas DeMarco scored on a 5-yard touchdown run with 3:42 left to give Old Dominion a 14-7 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday night.
Monty Smalley’s 32-yard punt return gave the Monarchs the ball at the Gardner-Webb 20-yard line with 4:31 left in the game as Old Dominion needed only three plays and 49 seconds to take the lead.
The Monarchs (3-2) took an early 7-0 lead after a 4-yard touchdown run by Mario Crawford in the opening quarter.
Gardner-Webb (2-3) wide receiver Richard Jules tied the contest at 7-7 after a 9-yard touchdown run with 1:36 left in the first quarter.
DeMarco’s touchdown was the only score either team could muster after the first quarter as both offenses combined to put up 455 yards of total offense.
Old Dominion’s defense sacked Chandler Browning five times and held the Runnin’ Bulldogs to 73 yards rushing.
