Holy Cross defeats Fordham 36-31
WORCESTER, Mass. — Ryan Taggart threw for a touchdown and ran for another as Holy Cross racked up 500 yards on offense to beat Fordham 36-31 on Saturday.
Taggart’s first score came in the first quarter on a 1-yard run to give the Crusaders a 7-0 lead.
Fordham quarterback Blake Wayne then threw a 6-yard touchdown pass and ran one in from 11 yards out to put the Rams (2-3, 0-1 Patriot League) on top 14-7.
Holy Cross (2-3, 1-1) answered with a 41-yard field goal from Rob Dornfried, a 26-yard touchdown reception by Bill Edger and a 17-yard scoring run from Sam Auffant to retake the lead 23-14.
Leading 30-24 early in the fourth quarter, Taggart threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Alex Schneider to give Holy Cross a 36-24 advantage after Dornfried missed the extra point.
Taggart ended with 289 yards passing and 75 more on the ground.
