NCAA begins new strategy for basketball officials
INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA has established two corporations for college basketball officials, saying it hopes to create more consistency with how games are called.
The national governing body announced Tuesday it had established one limited liability company for refs who call men’s games and another for those calling women’s games. NCAA officials also say they want to establish consistent accountability standards and standardized education and evaluation programs.
It’s not the first time the NCAA has tried something like this.
In 2007, the NCAA adopted a similar strategy for college football referees. NCAA officials say it has helped with player safety issues and instant replay.
