LONDON - Three men have been arrested in Devon, England, for allegedly racially abusing British tennis player Anne Keothavong when she was preparing for a tournament in the county.
“A 27-year-old woman from London has made an allegation of a racially aggravated incident. Three men aged 20, 23 and 25 have been arrested for this offence and for a separate shoplifting incident,” The Telegraph quoted Devon police spokesman, as saying.
“They remain in police custody waiting to be interviewed. Police investigations continue,” he added.
Keothavong had earlier claimed on the social-networking website Twitter that she “received a barrage of racial abuse” as she walked from the car park to her hotel on Sunday evening.
“I was on my own and completely outnumbered. Gave a statement to the police, hoping CCTV will get them,” Keothavong wrote on Twitter.
The British No.3 is due to play in the AEGON GB Pro-Series Open in Barnstaple this week. (ANI)
