LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (GaeaTimes.com)- After failing to accompany his teammates to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Monday, sparking fears that he had gone missing, Pakistani cricketer Zulqarnain Haider was later found at the Heathrow Airport where he arrived after fleeing from Dubai. On Monday, Pakistan were scheduled to clash against South Africa in the fifth and final ODI of the series but just hours before the match was all set to commence, the 24-year-old Pakistani wicketkeeper fled the Dubai hotel and made his way to London’s Heathrow Airport after he received death threats.

After fleeing Dubai without any prior notification, Zulqarnain Haider landed in London on Monday evening by an Emirates flight. Reports have claimed that after arriving in Heathrow airport, the Pakistani cricket player spent hours inside the terminal in conversation with the immigration authorities discussing plans to seek political asylum in the country. Later, the player confirmed to a leading Pakistan based media outlet that he had to take the decision of fleeing Dubai without any delay as he was getting death threats to lose the last two ODI between his team and South Africa in Dubai while adding that he chose to flee rather than ’sell out the dignity and respect’ of his motherland.

In the meanwhile, Tafazzul Rizvi, the legal adviser of the Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed to reporters that by choosing to flee from Dubai ahead of the fifth ODI, Zulqarnain Haider has violated his contract due to which the player would have to face an inquiry as well as a disciplinary action. However, the official noted that PCB was concerned about the entire scenario.
