‘Disappointing’ Taylor needs ‘a rocket fired at him’: Doull

BARODA - Former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull reckons that Ross Taylor needs a ‘wake-up call’ following his disappointing outing in the ongoing one-day series against India.
Doull said that Taylor’s poor form in the Indian sub-continent was worrying, especially with the world cup set to take place in February.
After a disappointing Test series where he averaged 27.2, Taylor was dismissed for just four in Saturday’s third ODI in Baroda.
“Ross Taylor, few would disagree, is New Zealand’s best batsman. He’s been around a long time now, doesn’t lack in experience and if anyone was going to step up against the world-class Indians it should have been him,” Doull wrote in an article for the Sunday News.
“Throughout the current one-day series and in the three test matches beforehand, Taylor has been disappointing. A problem with Taylor is that he’s so good his place in this Black Caps side is never in doubt.”
“Despite his well-documented battles with form, the reality is that he is indispensable. And he knows it too,” he added.
The 41-year-old also suggested that Taylor “perhaps does need a rocket fired at him.”
“The frightening prospect of dropping him on the eve of the world cup could be just the measure needed to see him return to his old self,” Doull said. (ANI)
