NEW DELHI - The Delhi round of Amaron Karting Challenge (AKC-3) ended Sunday with around 500 students participating and six making it to the finals in Hyderabad.

The finalist here are Vidit Jain, Kevin Lazarus, Garv Anand, Anikesh Verma, Aditya Saini and Ojaswi Tagore. The top three drivers here were awarded at a karting track in Noida. A total of 54 racers from across nine regions will participate in the finals Feb 7.

Akbar Ebrahim, a former Formula 2 driver, said the event is a step towards promoting racing culture in Delhi.

“There were a lot of crashes that happened during the race. It shows that the drivers here are raw and have very little idea about technicalities involved in racing,” Ebrahim told IANS.

“But karting’s popularity is on the rise in this part of the country and that is a good sign.”

The AKC is in its third season and kicked-off from Coimbatore in Nov 2010, travelling to Mumbai, Goa, Kolhapur, Chennai, Bangalore before arriving here. The eighth round will be in Chandigarh before the finals in Hyderabad.
