MELBOURNE - British tennis champion Andy Murray’s long-term girlfriend, Kim Sears, will be watching his Australian Open final against Slovak Novak Djokovic from their London home on Sunday.
Jim Courier, the former American player turned broadcaster, asked Murray whether Sears would be joining him in Australia for tomorrow’s big match, and the latter replied she would be “staying home”, before thanking his supporters back in Britain for their “great support”.
One person who was watching the game from Murray’s box alongside his mother and the Scot’s physio, Andy Ireland, was top female player Caroline Wozniacki.
The 20-year-old Dane, the women’s number one, cheered on Murray in his four-set victory after she had gone out at the semi-final stage of the women’s competition on Thursday.
The players are both sponsored by the sportswear firm Adidas, and only this month, Wozniacki drew parallels between her career and that of Murray.
She said: “I’m sure Andy will win a Grand Slam and I still feel like there’s still plenty of time for me to do so, as I’m only 20 and I’m improving all the time. My time will come.”
Murray and Ms Sears, the daughter of former tennis coach, Nigel Sears, split up in November 2009 after four years together. However, they reunited last summer, after spending seven months apart, and are now living together once again. (ANI)
