Oz swimmer Ian Thorpe may announce Olympics ambitions soon

SYDNEY - Australia’s greatest Olympian, Ian Thorpe, is expected to reportedly announce his comeback to international swimming, with an intention be a part of London Olympics in 2012.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the announcement of the swimming superstar is “imminent”.
Twenty-eight-years-old Thorpe is constantly in touch with Australian swimming coach Leigh Nugent, and declared that he wants to swim at the March, 2012 Olympic selection trials in the hope of qualifying for London in July, 2012, the paper said.
Before that, he reportedly needs to register his drug-testing paperwork with Swimming Australia, and would also have to wait nine months before he could swim at an official meet.
Meanwhile, sources have denied that Thorpe decided to comeback after facing financial difficulties during the global financial crisis.
According to reports, Geoff Huegill’s spectacular comeback to win gold at the Commonwealth Games also inspired Thorpe to return.
“A swimmer of his talent will lift the spirits of the team two or three notches. Ian Thorpe is a superstar, and his talent and experience would be a massive boost,” Huegill said.
Thorpe is reportedly training in private to gain back his confidence fefore making a formal announcement about his comeback. (ANI)
