CA calls board meeting to come out of Ashes mess

MELBOURNE - Cricket Australia (CA) has called for one of its most important board meetings next Tuesday to get to the bottom of the Ashes mess.
In the meeting, CA will try to chart a detailed plan for next summer’s expansive city-based Twenty20 competition, which will cause the greatest shift in the shape of the season since the World Series Cricket revolution of the late 1970s.
Former captain Steve Waugh has been mooted as a possible overseer or contributor.
“What we’re keen on is someone external with expertise that would allow them to manage a review, and we’re looking at a range of people across corporate Australia,” a CA spokesman was quoted as saying by The Age.
“We’re looking for someone with some grunt, who can give the review the credibility it needs, and who can make recommendations that are respected.”
Mike McKenna, CA’s marketing chief, will present further details on the tournament and proposals for how it is to be fitted into the prime December/January zone of an already cramped summer schedule.
The ultimate goals of an expanded T20 contest are to generate enough money to free CA from its state of utter reliance on Indian finance, and to foster a new approach to cricket programming where international matches come around less often.
