LONDON - Ferrari Formula One driver Felipe Massa’s first day testing of the new F150 went up in smoke, when the car caught fire after completing only 12 laps of the Valencia circuit in Spain.

Massa pulled over when the car suffered an oil leak caused by a broken clam.

“Unfortunately oil ended up on the exhausts which led to a small fire breaking out and that caused some damage to the car,” the Sun quoted a Ferrari spokesman, as saying.

The 29-year-old, however, did manage to finish the day fifth fastest overall with a time of one minute and 14.017 seconds just behind Red Bull’s Mark Webber in fourth.

Massa’s team-mate Fernando Alonso has spent the two previous days testing the same car in preparation for the season opener in Bahrain on March 13. (ANI)
