Ancelotti backs Torres despite flop Chelsea debut

LONDON - Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti insists that the club’s new signing, Fernando Torres, was not to blame for Sunday’s Premier League defeat to Liverpool.
The 50 million pound striker managed just one blocked shot before being substituted after 65 minutes.
Ancelotti however said that he was happy with Torres’ debut performance.
“I think it was a good decision to play Torres and he did a good job on the pitch. The problem was that we had difficultly finding space up front because Liverpool defended very well with three players in the middle and we didn’t find the right way to attack them,” the Sun quoted Ancelotti, as saying.
“Fernando tried to do something and used his movement, but we were too slow playing the ball up from the back. I took him off because he’s had a busy week. Now we have to work in training to combine with the other strikers, but that is normal.”
“He has confidence and experience and didn’t show any problems before the game. He was enthusiastic and excited to play,” he added. (ANI)
