Capello backs Rooney to fire in England’s Denmark friendly

LONDON - England manager Fabio Capello insists that striker Wayne Rooney remains his main man ahead of today’s friendly against Denmark.
Rooney had last scored for England back in September 2009, and is yet to rediscover his form on the international stage since his dreadful 2010 World Cup campaign.
Capello, however, said that the 25-year-old’s recent club form has been an encouraging.
“He’s suffered ankle problems, but in terms of assists, he has had 12 and scored two goals last week,” the Sun quoted Capello, as saying.
The England manager revealed that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had told him that Rooney was still key to their Premier League title bid.
“Sir Alex said he was really happy with Rooney’s performances this season. He said the reason Dimitar Berbatov has played well this year is because Rooney played well and helped him a lot. But, for a forward, scoring goals is important too,” Capello said.
“He scored twice against Aston Villa and that was really good for him. Rooney is really important, but not only for Sir Alex,” he added. (ANI)
