Huaritz could be on fast track to recovery

MELBOURNE - Australian off-spinner Nathan Hauritz can be on the fast track to recovery to play in the World Cup in the sub-continent starting Feb 19.
“A radical treatment involving controversial blood injections may get injured spinner Hauritz to the World Cup,” Herald Sun reported Monday.
The 29-year-old suffered the injury in the second one-day international against England in Hobart had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last Sunday. He is aiming to prove his fitness for Australia’s cup opener March 21.
“The remedy, out of left field and which enabled Cowboys’ NRL halfback Johnathan Thurston to play in last year’s State of Origin, may revive Hauritz’s cup hopes. Known as platelet-rich plasma therapy, it requires an athlete to have a sample of blood removed, then re-injected into the injured area after a 15-minute blood spinning process using a centrifuge machine,” the report said.
The technique has been used for the past three years by leading Sydney Swans doctor Nathan Gibbs.
