Nats recall INF Gonzalez, option OF Maxwell to AAA

PHILADELPHIA — The Washington Nationals have recalled infielder Alberto Gonzalez from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned outfielder Justin Maxwell to the minor league club.

The moves were made before Washington’s game at the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

Maxwell has hit .125 with no home runs, one RBI and 11 strikeouts in 24 at-bats for the Nationals this season.

Gonzalez was optioned to Syracuse in late April after making six errors while starting 11 games during Cristian Guzman’s stint on the disabled list.

Gonzalez has hit .271 with one homer and five RBIs in 15 games with the Nationals this season.
