Phillies’ Howard back in hospital with fever
PHILADELPHIA — Ryan Howard’s consecutive games streak appears likely to end after the Phillies slugger was hospitalized for the second time in two nights with flu symptoms.
Howard was at the hospital Sunday and not expected to play against the Baltimore Orioles. The 2006 National League MVP has played 343 straight games since May 25, 2007, the longest active streak in the majors.
Howard also went to the hospital after Friday’s game.
He was not expected to play Saturday, but returned to hit a pinch-hit, three-run home run.
Matt Stairs replaced Howard in the cleanup spot and Greg Dobbs filled in at first base.
