Outman will miss start Wednesday

OAKLAND, Calif. — Rookie left-hander Josh Outman will miss his start Wednesday for the Oakland Athletics with tightness in his throwing arm.

Outman underwent an MRI on Monday on his elbow area and is scheduled for another more extensive test Wednesday. The A’s had hoped he would be examined Tuesday but there wasn’t an appointment available.

The 24-year-old Outman is 4-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 14 appearances and 12 starts this season.

A’s manager Bob Geren said he would wait until after Tuesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants to name a starter for Wednesday, but was deciding between reliever Edgar Gonzalez or bringing up Gio Gonzalez from Triple-A Sacramento.
