Yankees’ Teixeira back ahead of Red Sox’s Youkilis in AL fan voting

Teixeira leads Youkilis again

NEW YORK — Mark Teixeira has regained the lead over Kevin Youkilis in a back-and-forth race to be elected the starting American League first baseman for the All-Star game.

In results of fan voting released Tuesday, Teixeira is ahead by 35,632 ballots. The Yankees slugger has 1,561,292 votes and Youkilis of the Boston Red Sox has 1,525,660.

Also, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (2,563,093) has overtaken Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria (2,488,076) as the top vote-getter.

Other leaders include Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler, Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer and outfielders Jason Bay of Boston, Josh Hamilton of Texas and Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle.

The All-Star game is July 14 in St. Louis.
