Mariners put SS Betancourt on disabled list
SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners have placed shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list after he pulled his right hamstring running out a ground ball.
Betancourt was placed on the DL Thursday and the Mariners activated second baseman Jose Lopez from the bereavement list. Lopez traveled to Venezuela for the funeral of his sister and returned Wednesday night.
Betancourt injured the lower part of his right hamstring, near the back of the knee. He was hurt running out a grounder in the eighth inning Wednesday night and had to be helped from the field.
Manager Don Wakamatsu says Ronny Cedeno would get most of the playing time at shortstop with Betancourt out. Betancourt’s injury is expected to take at least 15 days, if not more, to recover.
