Cook leads Rockies to 3-1 victory

OAKLAND, Calif. — Aaron Cook took a shutout into the ninth inning and won his fifth consecutive start as the Colorado Rockies defeated the Oakland Athletics 3-1 on Sunday.

Chris Iannetta, Carlos Gonzalez and Seth Smith each drove in a run for the Rockies, who completed their first sweep of the A’s and their fourth sweep in June.

Ryan Sweeney had two hits for the A’s, who lost their fifth, matching their season high.

Cook (8-3) gave up nine hits while walking one and striking out four. The Rockies’ franchise wins leader (60) had a 12-inning scoreless streak against the A’s end.

Former A’s closer Huston Street earned his 19th save in 20 chances by getting the final two outs. He saved all three games of the series.

A’s starter Vin Mazzaro (2-3) gave up three runs on five hits in five-plus innings. He walked four and struck out eight in losing his third straight, all in interleague play.

The Rockies have won 20 of their last 23 games, and improved to 22-7 under Jim Tracy.

The A’s finished 5-13 in interleague play, their worst performance against the National League.

The Rockies scored twice in the second inning on Iannetta’s RBI forceout and Smith’s run-scoring double. Gonzalez added an RBI double in the sixth.

Kurt Suzuki’s single to open the ninth ended Cook’s outing. Street gave up singles to Cabrera and Sweeney before striking out pinch-hitter Nomar Garciaparra and Mark Ellis and getting Adam Kennedy to fly out to left.
