Yankees catcher Posada back in lineup
NEW YORK — Yankees catcher Jorge Posada returned to the starting lineup Saturday after sitting out with a sore left thumb.
Posada was hit by a foul ball in Wednesday night’s 4-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners. He struck out as a pinch hitter Thursday and sat out Friday’s 4-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
“I’m a little concerned if it gets banged again,” manager Joe Girardi said. “But if he doesn’t get any foul tips and catches everything cleanly you would think that he would be OK.”
Posada batted sixth against Toronto. The switch hitter entered with a .267 average, 10 homers and 33 RBIs.
