Astros option INF Kata to minors
HOUSTON — The Houston Astros have optioned infielder Matt Kata to Triple-A Round Rock to make room for catcher Chris Coste, who was acquired off waivers from Philadelphia.
Coste, 36, who was claimed on Friday, is due to join the Astros on Saturday. He hit .245 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 45 games for the Phillies this season.
Coste made 98 starts for the World Series champion Phillies last year, hitting .263 with nine homers and 36 RBIs.
Kata, 31, was hitting .182 with a double and four RBIs in 22 games this season. The Astros purchased his minor-league contract on May 30. Kata started five games at second base and was 3 for 13 with three RBIs as a pinch-hitter.
