Chevron Houston Marathon 2010: excitement on the rise

chev-marathon09Runners along with the whole Houston community is excited and nervously awaiting to hear the starting gun for the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Half Marathon, which is houston’s largest single day sports event.

Houston marathon 2010 is scheduled for Jan. 17, and would be accompanying Aramco Half-Marathon and El Paso 5K.

The Chevron Houston Marathon and  Houston Half Marathon is recognized as the premier winter marathon in the United States, so to adjust the increasing demand both the events have to expanded to accommodate a record number of 22,000 runners jointly.

The marathon course remains the same for 2010, but a few things have changed, extra 4,000 has been added to adjust and accommodate elimination of the transfer policy that enabled entrants to switch places with other runners who had not entered in time.

Moreover the Houston Marathon is involved with following activities.

a) sponsoring the Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute’s 2010 Pre-Race Showcase, a mini-expo of information for runners of all distances. The showcase will be held at CityCentre Life Time Athletic Club from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

b) promoting  Run for a Reason program, which encourages runners to use the marathon to raise funds for local charities. More than 45 charities, benefiting local, national and global issues, are affiliated with Run for a Reason.

Online registration for the 2010 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon begins at 12:01 a.m. (CDT), Friday, July 17, with both races expected to sell out in record time.
Fees:
The early registration fee for the marathon is $90 and $65 for the half-marathon through July 31. After that, fees increase by $10, if entry still is available.
