Red Sox get Cards OF Duncan for Lugo
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Boston Red Sox have acquired outfielder Chris Duncan from the St. Louis Cardinals for shortstop Julio Lugo and cash.
Lugo was designated for assignment Friday, and owed about $13 million through next season.
Duncan, the son of Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, hit .227 with five home runs and 32 RBIs in 87 games for St. Louis. The Red Sox will option him to Triple-A Pawtucket.
The trade was announced before the Red Sox played the finale of their series in Texas on Wednesday night, hours after they had acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche from the Pittsburgh Pirates for two minor leaguers.
