Reds call up RHPs Lehr and Wells
CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds added two right-handed pitchers Friday, purchasing the contracts of Justin Lehr and Kip Wells from Triple-A Louisville.
Lehr was acquired from Philadelphia on May 22 for cash. He went a combined 13-3 with a 3.31 ERA in 18 starts and two relief appearances for Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies’ system and Louisville, including 8-1 with a 2.51 ERA in 11 starts and one relief appearance with the Bats.
The 32-year-old Lehr has made 66 major league relief appearances, most recently in May 2006 for Milwaukee.
Wells, also 32, was signed by the Reds to a minor league contract on July 7 after being released by Washington on July 1. He has pitched for the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh, Texas and St. Louis in just more than seven big league seasons.
