Cubs add Gorzelanny, put Blanco on DL
CINCINNATI — The Chicago Cubs have put infielder Andres Blanco on the 15-day disabled list with a strained calf, opening a roster spot for newly acquired Tom Gorzelanny.
The Cubs got Gorzelanny from Pittsburgh as part of a five-player deal on Thursday. The left-hander was scheduled to make his first start for Chicago on Tuesday night against Cincinnati.
Gorzelanny went 3-1 with a 5.19 ERA in nine appearances for Pittsburgh, the last one on June 9. He spent most of the season at Triple-A Indianapolis.
Blanco pulled his left calf Saturday and aggravated it during a 4-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night. He’s batting .237 with one homer and nine RBIs.
