Spurrier in charge of South Carolina’s attack
COLUMBIA, S.C. —Make no mistake: Steve Spurrier’s in charge of South Carolina’s attack.
The Gamecocks’ coach said Sunday he’ll be responsible for what plays his offense runs, as has been the case for about all of his previous 19 seasons in college.
Last season, Spurrier let son Steve Jr., the Gamecocks receivers coach, take on much of the preparation in planning the offense. Steve Sr. retained veto power if he thought his idea might have a better chance of working.
This fall, Spurrier will call on his son and several new offensive assistants. The Gamecocks brought in running backs coach Jay Graham, tight ends coach Jeep Hunter and offensive line coach Eric Wolford, who also holds the title of running game coordinator.
