Devlin’s 2 TDs help Delaware past West Chester

NEWARK, Del. — Pat Devlin threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in his debut at Delaware as the Blue Hens beat West Chester, 35-0, in their season opener on Friday night.

Devlin, a highly-touted transfer from Penn State, completed 12-of-15 passes for 227 yards while playing a little less than three quarters. The junior also ran five times for 20 yards.

The Hens finished with an advantage of 403-176 in total yards over the Division II Golden Rams (1-1).

Delaware converted good field position into three first-half touchdowns to take a 21-0 halftime lead. Devlin threw TD passes of seven yards to Josh Baker and 31 yards to Tommy Crosby while also scoring on a one-yard run as Delaware’s first three scoring drives covered 46 yards or less.

For West Chester, Joe Wright completed 8-of-20 passes for 59 yards with an interception.
