Tennessee Tech dominates Pikeville 51-10
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Lee Sweeney threw for 187 yards and accounted for two touchdowns to help Tennessee Tech dominate Pikeville 51-10 on Thursday night.
Sweeney, who completed 14 of 18 passes, scored on a 1-yard run and a 53-yard pass to Alden Olverson.
Cedric Wilkerson and Dontey Gay each scored on two rushing touchdowns for the Golden Eagles (1-0). Gay rushed for 88 yards, while Tremain Hudson had 86 yards rushing.
Tennessee Tech, which held Pikeville scoreless until the fourth quarter, went into halftime with a 34-0 lead that was capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Wilkerson. The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 44-0 in the third on Gay’s 5-yard rushing score.
Chase Ellis completed 9 of 17 passes for 51 yards and two interceptions for the Bears (0-2), an NAIA program. Jeremy Mobley led Pikeville with 78 yards rushing on seven carries and a touchdown.
