Birmingham-Southern beats Campbell 35-28 in OT
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Joe Thigpen threw a 32-yard pass to Tay Walker in overtime to lead Division III Birmingham-Southern in a 35-28 win against Campbell on Saturday.
The Panthers (1-1) were down 20-9 midway through the second quarter before Walter Arrington’s 25-yard touchdown run pulled them within 20-15 going into halftime.
Birmingham-Southern’s Shawn Morris scored the only points of the third quarter on a 65-yard run, putting the Panthers ahead 21-20 going into the fourth quarter.
Thigpen’s 9-yard touchdown run put the Panthers ahead 28-20 to start the fourth but Carl Smith’s 2-yard scoring run pulled the Camels (1-1) even with 50 seconds left, setting up Thigpen’s winning TD pass.
Thigpen was 10 of 19 for 145 yards, a touchdown and an interception, while also rushing for 84 yards and two scores.
