South Carolina State tops Bethune-Cookman 24-3

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Malcolm Long passed for 148 yards and a touchdown as South Carolina State defeated Bethune-Cookman 24-3 Saturday.

South Carolina State (2-0, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), ranked 15th in the Football Championship Subdivision poll, scored early after Bethune-Cookman punter Kory Kowalski’s knee hit the ground on the 4 while fielding a punt snap. Two plays later, the Bulldogs’ Travil Jamison scored from the 1 with 10:43 left in the first quarter.

Long, who quarterbacked South Carolina State to the MEAC title last year, completed 14 of 24 passes with one interception and threw a 23-yard scoring pass to Will Ford.

Bethune-Cookman (0-2, 0-1) had four turnovers and only 97 yards of offense.

Kowalski’s 31-yard field goal for the Wildcats with 1:50 left in the third quarter cut the difference to 14-3.
