Stephen F. Austin beats Western Illinois 40-30
MACOMB, Ill. — Jeremy Moss passed for 363 yards and four touchdowns to lead Stephen F. Austin to a 40-30 victory over Western Illinois on Saturday night.
Contrevious Parks and Aaron Rhea each caught two TD passes, and Evan Engwall kicked four field goals, including one from 50 yards and another from 51.
Coming off a 92-0 victory over Texas College last week — a school record for points scored — the Lumberjacks (2-1) had to work harder for their victory this time.
The Leathernecks (1-2) answered Parks’ two first-quarter touchdown catches with a 53-yard TD catch by Justin Rideau and an 88-yard punt return by Todd Speight at the end of the quarter which tied the game 14-14.
But SFA built a 29-17 halftime lead and never gave it away. Western Illinois got within 32-30 in the fourth, but a touchdown catch by Rhea and a safety by Devin Ducote sealed the victory.
