Former Rockies pitcher Chacon arrested

GREELEY, Colo. — Former major league pitcher Shawn Chacon has been released from custody after being arrested in Colorado on a charge related to unpaid gambling markers in Nevada.

Weld County sheriff’s officials say they released him Tuesday, one day after his arrest in Greeley, after learning Las Vegas authorities decided not to extradite him.

The Las Vegas Sun reported Friday that Chacon faces a felony charge related to three bad checks written for $50,000 to Caesars Palace in March.

Chacon, who attended high school in Greeley, played for the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Last year, the Houston Astros released Chacon after a confrontation with general manager Ed Wade.

In 2009, Chacon played for Oakland’s Triple-A team in Sacramento.
