Tebow starts for Florida against LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. — Tim Tebow started for No. 1 Florida against No. 4 LSU, two weeks after suffering a concussion.

Tebow was medically cleared to play before the game, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press.

Florida coach Urban Meyer said earlier in the day that the quarterback would play if he received clearance from doctors. The person requested anonymity because an official announcement had yet to be made.

On Florida’s first play from scrimmage, Tebow handed off to Chris Rainey.

The Gators were pinned inside their own 10 on that possession, and Tebow didn’t need to do much more than hand off to lead the Gators to a 28-yard field goal by Caleb Sturgis.

Tebow took one solid hit on the first drive, getting rid of a pass just before blitzing defensive back Patrick Peterson put a shoulder in Tebow’s midsection. He connected with Aaron Hernandez for an 8-yard gain on the play.

Tebow carried the ball twice on the 82-yard drive, once on a keeper into the line and once scrambling away from pressure, and gained no yards. He completed 1 of 2 passes.
