Stony Brook scores late in 27-20 win over VMI
LEXINGTON, Va. — Conte Cuttino scored a 13-yard touchdown with 52 seconds remaining to lift Stony Brook past Virginia Military Institute 27-20 on Saturday.
Trailing 20-19 with 2:56 to go, Matt Brevi ran a kickoff 31 yards to put the Seawolves (3-4, 2-0 Big South Conference) on the VMI 49-yard line.
Michael Coulter then threw for a first down to Cuttino and connected with Stephan Towns on three straight passes to set up the game-winning run. After Cuttino made it 25-20, Coulter threw to Donald Porter for the 2-point conversion.
Coulter was 28 of 44 with 316 yards and two touchdowns and Towns finished with 112 yards on 11 catches.
The Keydets (1-5, 0-3) took a 20-19 lead on a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Kyle Hughes, who accounted for 47 of VMI’s 69 yards on the go-ahead drive.
Tim Maypray led VMI with 86 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
