Platek leads Drake past Davidson 21-16

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Stephen Platek rushed for two touchdowns and Michael Lahart ran 58 yards to return a blocked field goal for a score as Drake rallied to defeat Davidson 21-16 on Saturday.

Platek had scoring runs of 9 yards in the first quarter and 63 yards with 7:58 left in the third for Drake (6-1, 4-0 Pioneer Football League). About 3 minutes later, a 43-yard field goal attempt by Davidson’s Ben Behrendt was blocked by Ben Morrison and recovered by Lahart, who put Drake ahead 21-10.

The Wildcats (2-5, 2-3) had taken a 10-7 halftime lead on a 3-yard run by Michael Blanchard and a 29-yard field goal by Behrendt. Blanchard, who was 14-for-25 for 125 yards with one interception, also scored on a 5-yard run with 5:54 left, but Davidson could not close the gap.

The Bulldogs won their fourth straight, traveling 5,586 miles on consecutive weekends to beat San Diego and Davidson.
