New Jersey: A state of divided baseball loyalties
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — New Jersey will be a state of divided loyalties when the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees meet in the World Series.
Somewhere around Exit 7A of the New Jersey Turnpike is the line of demarcation separating Phillies and Yankees fans.
The gritty turnpike connects the suburbs of New York with the outskirts of Philadelphia. At a rest stop about halfway between, fans are sporting their red and blue colors this week.
Douglass Thomas, of Roselle, was warning Phillies fans to get their money ready to pay up on bets.
Farther south, near Audubon, Phillies fan Elaine Finn called the Phillies “the superior team.”
The series begins Wednesday night in New York.
