Oregon St thumps Huskies 48-21 to keep Pac-10 pace

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Jacquizz Rodgers ran for 159 yards, Sean Canfield threw for four touchdowns and Oregon State kept its Rose Bowl hopes alive with an 48-21 win over Washington on Saturday.

Rodgers surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season and ran for two touchdowns for the Beavers (7-3, 5-2 Pacific-10), who have won five of their last six games and are firmly in the hunt for the Pac-10 title.

The Huskies (3-7, 2-5) dropped their fourth straight and are out of bowl contention.

Chris Polk ran for 100 yards for the Huskies, who are winless on the road this year.

In his final game at Reser Stadium, Canfield was 21 of 29 for 185 yards.

Justin Kahut kicked two 44-yard field goals and Rodgers broke free for a 42-yard run that set up his brother James Rodgers for a 6-yard touchdown reception and a 20-0 lead.

Locker was 14 for 23 passing for 153 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with Jermaine Kearse five times for 70 yards and two touchdowns, but had little luck establishing a passing game otherwise. The junior wasn’t able to affect the game with his speed, either. He was sacked four times and finished with minus-13 yards rushing.

The Huskies briefly got going on the ground in the second quarter when Polk ran for 57 of Washington’s 66 yards on a nine-play drive capped with a 3-yard pass to Kearse.

But the Beavers immediately marched down the field, with Canfield completing nine passes for 70 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to James Rodgers to make it 27-7 just before halftime.

He deflated any hopes the Huskies had coming out of the break by running the opening kickoff back to the Washington 1. Jacquizz Rodgers punched it in.

Jacquizz later added an 8-yard scoring run and set up another score with a 44-yard run on a direct snap.
